Middleton Place

Middleton Place is considered a historic landmark in America, the former plantation has one of the oldest and largest landscaped gardens in the United States, covering an area of ​​​​more than 110 hectares. During the Colonial period, the complex served as residence of the wealthy owners of the Middleton family. Nowadays as a tourist you can go back in time by visiting Middleton Place. A very impressive piece of American history.

Charleston’s Historic District

The Historic District is located in the middle of the city of Charleston. The district consists a large number of buildings build according to 18th and 19th century architecture. In 1931, the district was named as the first historic protected district in the United States. Nearly 30 years later, in 1960, the area was even declared a National Historic Landmark. In our opinion, this neighborhood is definitely worth to visit when you are in Charleston.

Caesars Head State Park

Caesars Head State Park is one of the best hiking spots in South Carolina. The park is about 30 km2 and has a large number of hiking trails. One of the park’s best-known trails leads you to Raven Cliff Falls, which can be crossed by a large suspension bridge. In addition to the waterfalls, you can also enjoy a beautiful landscape of mountains and lakes in the park. For a small entry fee you can enter the park and enjoy the beautiful nature.

Even if you want to relax, South Carolina is the place to be. The state has a lot of beautiful beaches, one of the most striking beaches is Myrtle beach. With an average annual temperature of 22 degrees Celsius, it is always wonderful weather to relax on the beach. After a long day at the beach, you can easily walk onto the boulevard and go into the Ferris wheel for example. From the ferris wheel you have a beautiful view over the city and the sea.

Myrtle Beach has more to offer than just the beach, a little further on is the boulevard, better known as ”Broadway at the Beach”. There is plenty things to do, you can shop for hours, there are plenty of restaurants, countless attractions for young and old and much more. There is even an entire theatre at the boulevard. In addition, many people like the cozy appearance of the boulevard. In our opinion, a real must visit if you want something different than just a normal beachday.

Falls Park on the Reedy is a park in downtown Greenville. The park is best known for its striking suspension bridge around the waterfall, supported on only one side by cables. An extra beautiful view of the falls guaranteed. The Upsate Shakespeare Festival is also hosted in the park every year in summer. But above all, this park in the middle of the city is a wonderful place to relax and escape from the bustle of the city.

Fort Sumter

The American Civil War began with an attack on Fort Sumter in 1861. The fort is located in the Harbor of Charleston. The fort was badly damaged during the war and was never fully restored. Since the mid-twentieth century, the fortress has been part of a National Monument and is open to the public. If you want to learn more about the history of America, this is the place to visit.

Darlington Raceway

NASCAR is live and kicking in South Carolina, Darlington Raceway is a track built especially for NASCAR races. The track has an egg-shaped layout and was opened in 1950. Since then the track has hosted a large number of racing competitions. A NASCAR race, called Southern 500, is organized every year. The race often takes place at the beginning of September. Due to the presence of a museum about the history of the circuit, this place is worth visiting all year round.

We conclude with the capital of South Carolina, Columbia. The city derived its name of explorer Christopher Columbus. The state’s largest university is also located in this city, the University of South Carolina. In addition to the many shopping streets, there are also plenty of parks in the city. Highly recommended to visit is the State House of South Carolina. The government of the state is located in this classical, immense building. Like Fort Sumter, the State House has also been named as a National Landmark.
