What is the value of your degree?
After graduating from a US college or university, you have received a bachelor’s degree or a master’s degree. After graduating from an American university, you can easily start working in the Netherlands or in the US. In addition, your CV is full of valuable information for future employers. It shows that you’ve studied for four years at a University in the US, combining it with collegiate sports. Student-athletes typically are ahead of their “regular student” peers in many areas.
Why a student-athlete?
A student-athlete’s power goes far beyond sports. A student-athlete is a valuable asset to many companies. Why? They have a very strong mentality and discipline. They are part of many international social networks. They have completed a university degree while competing at the highest level in their sport. They speak fluent business English. They know what it’s like to work in a team and to handle the pressure to succeed. On top of that, student-athletes develop certain intangible assets which we call the 21st Century Skills.
21st Century Skills
21st Century Skills are skills needed to be successful in today’s working environment. At Slamstox, we conducted research to compare the 21st century skills of student-athletes in the US with those of regular Dutch athletes and students. The result: on average student-athletes in the US score over 10% higher on nearly all skills. Check out the average scores in the graph.
