In this article, we share more about student-athlete Steijn Koot. Additionally, at the bottom of this article, you’ll find a video in which Steijn talks more about himself.

Sports: Men’s tennis
Entry semester: Fall 2025

Steijn is a 17-year-old tennis player from Zuidwolde. He currently trains 12 hours a week, in addition to his matches, and aims to further develop his skills in the United States.

Despite his dyslexia, Steijn has developed a great deal of perseverance, allowing him to keep up well with reading and writing. His big dream is to play for a college in the United States, where he aims to grow not only as a tennis player but also as a person.

At the age of four, Steijn began playing both tennis and football, excelling in both sports at a high level. At twelve, he decided to quit football and fully focus on tennis. Today, he trains 12 hours a week, in addition to the matches he plays. Thanks to his strong forehand and powerful serve, opponents often struggle to return his shots. Steijn is determined to keep improving and always takes his coaches’ feedback to heart.

Steijn’s ultimate goal is to become a professional tennis player. Although he is aware that this is a challenging path and isn’t certain if he will achieve his dream, he knows that happiness and fulfillment are what matter most—and tennis plays a crucial role in that. Steijn is a valuable asset to any school, as he always strives for victory and is dedicated to supporting his teammates both on and off the court.

“My life’s purpose is to be a professional tennis player.”
