The NCAA tennis championships are in full swing, who will take home the National title this year? Virginia has won the NCAA National Championship for the past two years in the men’s category, and this year they are still in the running for the championship.

Even looking at who has won the most titles in the past ten years, Virginia still stands out as a favorite. The university has won an impressive six titles in the last decade. And this year, they are once again one of the top contenders, having not lost a single match yet. All seeded teams made it through the first round this year, but in the second round, NC State, with Fons van Sambeek, the brother of Slamstox founder Pedro Mol, (14th seed), and Oklahoma (11th seed) were defeated.

In the third round, many seeded teams will already face each other. The following matches are scheduled for May 10th and 11th and are definitely worth following.

Ohio State (1) – Mississippi St(16)
Arizona (9) – Columbia (8)
Kentucky (5) – Harvard (12)
Duke (13) – TCU (4)
Tennessee (7)-Florida State (10)
Texas A&M (15) – Texas (2)

Contenders

Ohio State, Texas, and Virginia are the top contenders for the championship, not only because they are seeded one, two, and three respectively, but also because they have convincingly won their matches so far. Additionally, all three teams have very strong players in their lineup. Ohio State’s top player, Cannon Kingsley, even has a UTR of 13.92.

Ohio State has only lost one match in the entire conference this year and is seeded number one. This naturally makes them one of the favorites to win the national title. Last year, Ohio finished second in the championship, so who knows, perhaps the Buckeyes can go for the win this year. Texas has also lost only three matches in the conference this year and is seeded second, automatically making them favorites as well.

Virginia has lost five matches in the Conference this year and is seeded third as a result. In the past two years, Virginia has also won the NCAA Championship. The biggest advantage for Virginia during the tournament is their considerable experience in playing and winning crucial matches. This experience is crucial in this phase of the competition and necessary to ultimately secure the National title.

Which university will ultimately take home the NCAA National Champion title is still up in the air; the final will be played on May 19th. Then we will know which university can rightfully claim to be the best in America this year.

Singles & doubles tournament

While college tennis in America is truly a team sport, there are also titles to be won in singles and doubles. This final tournament takes place from May 20th to 25th, where the top 64 singles players and the top 32 doubles pairs in the country compete for the National title. It’s a great honor just to be able to participate in this event.

We are definitely proud that this edition will feature two Slamstox athletes competing in the doubles tournament. Jip van Assendelft has qualified with his doubles partner Samuel Sippel, representing Boise State, for the final tournament. Meanwhile, Stian Klaassen did so with Sacchitt Sharrma for San Diego. We are very curious to see how both tennis players will perform, but we are already proud of these achievements.
