Finding good films and series can sometimes take a very long time. Therefore, we’ve made a list with the best films, series and docu’s about college sport, so you don’t spent hours looking!
Last Chance U
If you’re talking about must-see series about college sports, Last Chance U should definitely not be missing from the list. It is about college football athletes who are all very talented, but all have their own problems, both on and off the field. They see college football as a last chance to change their lives and make their dreams come true: Becoming NFL stars. Much of the series is set at East Mississippi Community College, the school where our basketball specialist Brian Riesmeijer
There have been five seasons of this series and the latest season is also worth watching. In this season you get a glimpse of Laney College in Oakland where you can see how hard it is for some athletes and what they have to leave behind to make their dreams come true. All five seasons are worth watching so get ready to binge watch Last Chance U!
The Playbook
This docuseries provides a new perspective with behind the scenes views from 5 successful coaches. Each episode is commited to one coach that gives new and motivational insights to what it’s like to be a coach on the highest level of sports. The coaches Doc Rivers and Dawn Staley; both former college basketball players and now NBA coaches, Jill Ellis; coach of the United States women’s national soccer team, José Mourinho; soccer coach of among others Real Madrid, Chelsea and Manchester United and Patrick Mouratoglou; coach of Serena Williams.
Titletown High
Although this serie isn’t about a college team but about a high school football team, it is a must-see serie for any student-athlete. This serie follows the football team of Valdosta High School. The town Georgia is all about football and winning. While the team is fighting for the title led by the infamous coach Rush Propst, they deal with rivalries and romance.
The Express
The Express is a movie that revolves around Ernie Davis, he is the first African-American to win the “Heisman Trophy. This is an award given every year by the NCAA to the best college football player in the United States. Many universities, including Syracuse University, are impressed by Ernie and offer him a scholarship. College sports take center stage in this film, but themes of racism and discrimination also emerge. Check it out.
National Champions
A movie that came out in 2021 and can now be seen on Prime Video is about the period before the National Championship game in College Football. There are some players who go on strike during this game because they believe they should be compensated fairly for their services. There are literally billions going around in College Football of which the players see nothing in return! Rudy
Streamable on Prime Video is the somewhat older film Rudy. The film is about an American Football player who has dreamed of playing for Notre Dame all his life. However, he is not the best Football player nor does he get very high grades. Nevertheless, he manages to study at Notre Dame after which his adventure begins. Even better is that this story is actually happened,. We highly recommended and definitely underated if you ask us.
QB1: Beyond the Lights
And last but not least…. QB1: Beyond the Lights. This serie is also about a high school football team. Spencer Rattler, Lance LeGendre and Nik Scalzo, three quarterbacks are followed in this serie. They complete their final season of their high school career, before attending NCCAA Division l college football. An inspiring journey from high school to college football at the highest level!
