About Gijs
Gijs Velings has taken his soccer dream firmly into his hands, and his adventure in the United States is proof of his determination and talent. The 20-year-old Dutchman currently plays for IUPUI, where he has impressed in a short period of time. Not only by his play, but also by the responsibility he carries: this year he became captain of his team. For Gijs, this is just the beginning of his career. His ultimate goal is to become a professional soccer player, and his time at IUPUI is just an intermediate step toward an even greater challenge: the MLS.

The journey with Slamstox
Gijs began his search for a place in college soccer with clear goals in mind. It was an important journey for him, and Slamstox’s guidance played a crucial role. The captain in America
Gijs’ hard work and dedication were quickly rewarded. In his first season at IUPUI, he captured a regular starting spot and quickly grew to become the team’s captain. This role has helped Gijs further in his personal and athletic growth, and his accomplishments are a testament to his hard work. His focus now is on the next step: after his undergraduate degree, Gijs wants to continue his development at a top 25 Division 1 school, where he can gain more exposure for a possible MLS Draft.
