She is now a &#8216;senior&#8217; and therefore an experienced student athlete. We asked Sanne to tell us something about her time at Lenoir-Rhyne:<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong><span style=\"color:#ec6918\" class=\"has-inline-color\">\u201cI\u2019m really thankful for the opportunity I got to study at Lenoir-Rhyne as I grew as a person: academically, athletically and socially. Keep reading!\u2003<\/p>\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-campus\">The Campus<\/h4>\n\n<p>Since 1891, Lenoir-Rhyne University (LRU) is known as the &#8216;private university&#8217; of Hickory, North Carolina. Almost 3000 students are part of the university.<\/p>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" src=\"https:\/\/www.slamstox.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/85.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-16088\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.slamstox.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/85.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.slamstox.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/85-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n<p>LRU is an Evangelical Lutheran school with traditional Christian influences, which is reflected in the beautiful chapel on the campus and the slogan of the university:<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>\u201cThe truth shall set you free\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"960\" height=\"540\" src=\"https:\/\/www.slamstox.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/lenoir-rhyne-university-chapel.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-16090\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.slamstox.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/lenoir-rhyne-university-chapel.jpg 960w, https:\/\/www.slamstox.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/lenoir-rhyne-university-chapel-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.slamstox.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/lenoir-rhyne-university-chapel-768x432.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<p>In addition to the campus in Hickory, the university also has campuses in Columbia and Asheville. During the first year, students are required to live on campus, but that is certainly not a punishment! In addition to many beautiful school buildings and study rooms, there are also 60 different student clubs on campus.<\/p>\n\n<p>Lenoir-Rhyne makes every effort to provide the best home base for the student athletes and that includes, as they say, &#8216;state-of-art&#8217; facilities. The bears consist of 11 men&#8217;s and 12 women&#8217;s teams of which nearly all teams compete in the South Atlantic Conference. The university colors are black and red, in addition, the bears have two mascots: Josie &amp; Joe Bear! View the duo in the photo on the right.<\/p>\n\n<p>LRU previously participated within the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, better known as the NAIA. The LRU American Football team managed to win the championship within the NAIA in 1960, the women&#8217;s basketball team did so in 1980 and the male basketball team in 1992. Later the teams moved to the NCAA Division 2 competition, where the American Football team played for the first the championship final.<\/p>\n\n<p>Recently, the LRU softball team made it to the NCAA Division 2 playoffs 6 times, in 2010 and 2011 they reached the Southeast Region Finals! They are characterized as LRU&#8217;s most successful team. Go girls! The women participated in the Southeast Region Tournament in 2009.<\/p>\n\n<p>Great performance of the Bears! But beyond the university&#8217;s varsity teams, there are also two different &#8216;club sports&#8217;. Those are the triathlon and weight lifting. Both for men and women. As a student, there is the possibility to join the debate team or the theater program and way more.
